Gameplay Developer (Unreal Engine 5.6 / C++) – Remote

Headlight Studio is an independent studio based in Montpellier, France, developing immersive and ambitious experiences under Unreal Engine 5.6. We are looking for a Gameplay Developer to join the team remotely and work on our two titles:

  • Rooted – a post-apocalyptic open-world survival game (over 1,000,000 wishlists on Steam).
  • Backrooms: Extractions – a cooperative online horror game with more than 65,000 players.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and integrate gameplay systems and mechanics in C++ under Unreal Engine 5.6.
  • Work closely with the Game Director and Lead Developer on multiplayer systems.
  • Design and optimize network features (replication, RPCs, authority logic, cooperative interactions).
  • Create reusable gameplay modules and technical tools.
  • Collaborate with 3D, design, and technical teams for smooth integration.

Requirements:

  • Excellent proficiency in C++ with Unreal Engine 5 (mandatory).
  • Strong understanding of multiplayer principles (Replication, RPC, Authority).
  • Comfortable working with characters, animation integration, and Control Rig.
  • Experience with online or cooperative projects appreciated.
  • Clean, maintainable code and solid problem-solving skills.

Tech environment:

  • Unreal Engine 5.6
  • C++ / Blueprint (integration & debugging)
  • Perforce / Jenkins / Discord / Trello / Jira
  • Structured workflow with technical sheets and milestone validation

Conditions:

  • Contract: Freelance / CDD / CDI depending on profile
  • Remote work – Studio based in Montpellier (34), France

Subject: Candidature – Gameplay Developer (Rooted / Backrooms)

3D Animator (FPS / TPS – Unreal Engine 5.6) – Remote

Headlight Studio is looking for a talented 3D Animator to create realistic weapon animations for both first-person (FPS) and third-person (TPS) perspectives across our projects Rooted and Backrooms: Extractions.

Responsibilities:

  • Create and refine animations for shooting, reloading, aiming, handling, and weapon inspection.
  • Develop consistent animation cycles between FPS and TPS views.
  • Ensure smooth transitions and blending across animation states.
  • Integrate and test animations directly in Unreal Engine 5.6 using Control Rig and Animation Blueprints.
  • Collaborate with gameplay programmers for synchronization and feedback consistency.

Requirements:

  • Strong experience in realistic 3D animation (FPS/TPS, weapons, characters).
  • Proficiency with Maya, Blender, or similar software.
  • Good knowledge of Unreal Engine 5.6 integration (Control Rig, Animation Blueprint, Sequencer).
  • Understanding of animation principles: anticipation, recoil, weight, timing.
  • Ability to work independently while meeting technical and artistic constraints.
